Airport (Entering Turkmenistan)

The procedures upon arrival at Ashgabat International Airport may seem complicated, but in reality everything is simple. The most important thing you will need is patience. Just follow our instructions step by step.

1. Upon arrival, follow the signs for "Passport Control" or "Exit".
2. Before going through passport control, proceed to the window marked "Visa".
3. The visa officer will take your passport and give you a payment slip, which you must take to the cashier (the window marked "Bank") to pay the required fees.
4. You will need to pay:
   • PCR/COVID test fee: approximately USD 33 (subject to change)
   • Visa fee: approximately USD 55–75, depending on your nationality
   • Customs fee: approximately USD 10–14

   Payment must be made in US dollars. We recommend bringing the exact amount in clean, undamaged banknotes, as change may not always be available and torn or damaged banknotes are not accepted.

5. After making the payment, return to the "Visa" window. You do not need to queue again—simply hand your payment receipt to the visa officer.
6. The visa officer will place the visa in your passport and return it to you. You should then proceed to the PCR/COVID testing area.
7. After completing the PCR/COVID test, continue to Passport Control, collect your luggage, and proceed through Customs to the arrivals hall.

Please do not hesitate to ask airport staff for assistance if you are unsure where to go.

As at any international airport, there may be queues when going through security and customs formalities. Please be patient and understand that this is an integral part of ensuring everyone's safety.

Farap border (Entering Turkmenistan)

Opens 24 hours. Lunch break between 13:00 and 14:00. Tourists’ bus will drop off tourists 50-meter walk away from the customs building on Uzbek side.

Then tourists stamped out of Uzbekistan at customs building. Then 300-meter walk to customs gate and there is a shared minivan. It charges one USD for the transfer till to Turkmen side (1km). at the Turkmen-uzbek border PCR test will be taken (33$ per person). After tourists have to change the minivan to Turkmen’s minivan. It charges one USD, too. Tourists are responsible for getting their own luggage on the minivan. Drive to 1.5 km until to Turkmen custom building. Here Turkmen guide will meet tourists and help them.

First, LOI’s asked to tourists to obtain a visa. The visa fee is about 55-75$ depends on a nationality, 10-14$ custom fee. Then stamp in and fill out the custom declaration form, custom formalities. Leave on another minivan (one USD) for the last checkpoint with the guide. From here bus Tourists’ bus will pick tourists up.

Khiva border (Entering Turkmenistan)

Opens at 9am, and closes at 6 pm. Lunch break between 13:00 and 14:00

Tourists’ bus will drop off tourists 50-meter walk away from the Uzbekistan customs building. Tourists stamped out of Uzbekistan. Custom formalities. 1km walk till to Turkmen customs building. There is no shared vehicle. PCR test will be taken (33$ per person). First, LOI’s asked to tourists to obtain a visa. The visa fee is about 55-75$ depending on nationality, 10-14$ custom fee. Then stamp in and fill out the custom declaration form, and custom formalities. Here Turkmen guide will meet tourists and help them. Leave the building and walk 150m to the bus.
