Rayen Citadel
This immense construction is of unparalleled beauty, and it is the second largest mud brick building in the world. You will not be able to resist its charm. Rayen Citadel is located atop the hills of southwestern Iran in the present city of Rayen. You will appreciate its surface of 2000 m2, which opens up a vast field of contemplation to visitors.
The genius of the man on this building, although ancient, still impresses. To speak of this masterpiece without mentioning its magnificence would be an insult to the genius of the architect who designed it. This citadel is almost square and contains several towers with jagged edges. You will discover around it a wall more than ten meters high. The only entrance to the building is to the east, where you will admire a beautiful door. The citadel contained a mosque, a bazaar, a part reserved for housing in winter and summer, a river, houses reserved for the elite and others for the population.
You will observe a splendid aristocratic area and two ancient industries in the city of Rayen, including an armament factory. You will also visit the traditional teahouse near the citadel without forgetting the hotel and the restaurant, which are built there for your accommodation, and catering.
The landscape surrounding this gem is fabulous. It constitutes for the site a natural attraction apart from the majestic citadel itself. You will find it in an arid steppe dominated by the foothills of the snow-capped Hezar Mountains, the highest at 4,465 meters in the province of Kerman and the fourth in Iran. You will admire the magnificent waterfall there. You will also explore caraway, which is a famous seed that grows wild on these mountains. The panoramic view offered by this small vegetation therefore gives an exceptional charm to the site!
