In the territory of Turkmenistan, there are a considerable quantity of health improving centres and clinics equipped with the latest medical technologies. Traditional methods of treatment applied in health resorts and preventive maintenance of diseases not only enjoys a wide popularity of local residents, but also involves foreign visitors.
Gaynar Baba is located near the village of Garlyk and is considered one of the holy places. Many locals and tourists come here to relax and restore their health. Because there is Lake Gaynar-baba, which is not far from each other, and a spring. Lake Gaynar Baba is 25 × 35 meters in size and has a depth of about 3 meters, has clear freshwater and is home to many fish. Visitors swim in the lake. The source is located a few meters north of Gaynar Baba Lake and the water is hydrogen sulphide. The shores of the fountain are covered with reeds and various aquatic weeds. At its base is a healing clay that is no different from that of Mollagara and Archman. Spring water is used for the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases, mud, skin, joints, and colds. Therefore, the number of people coming here is increasing year by year.
Gaynar Baba is fed by the warm water source Akkoz. Kaynar Baba means, "Boiling spring". Due to its medical qualities, it is more effective than the famous Matsesta waters. People from Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan come here seeking for healing. However, if we take into account that there is no other reservoir in the whole territory of the Karlyuk steppe in a few dozen square kilometres, it is already a rich source of fresh water. Honestly, water enriched with compounds of gypsum, is not so tasty. Temperature of the water is constant throughout the year. In summer, water refreshes the body pleasantly, and in winter, it warms you. The medical season continues all over the year.
The lake was formed at the mouth of an underground spring, bursting with a powerful ascending stream at the foot of Kugitang. The water flow is almost two cubic meters per second. Carp and other fishes can be found in the lake with reeds and seaweed. Three large irrigation ditches, dug by the first settlers at the dawn of our era, and the southern channel is the most recent tributary of the mighty Amyderya.
